When we look at the 4th piece of Armor we find the Shield of Faith. Paul tells us in verse 16 of Ephesians 6 to take up the shield of faith in order to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. For a soldier in battle, a shield was used as a form of protection. It was usually made of wood and leather and when wet the arrows were unable to burn. Also it could be used as an offensive weapon to knock enemies over with force. As Christians, the faith we have is based on reality not some theory of man. This is how we overcome the world. Who will overcome not the great Scientists or Philosophers or the great minds the simple believer who has faith in the unseen. The faith we have in Christ will influence the way we live. Our faith can guard us during trials in the same way a shield would during battle. When we experience doubt and our beliefs are questioned, our faith will protect us.
